Kenny Chesney’s New Album: Second Time’s the Charm
To call Kenny Chesney‘s upcoming album a labor of love might be a bit of an understatement. The country superstar known for his massive summer tours took a break from the road this year to concentrate on the new music, and reports he’s been in the studio “non-stop.”

“We’re in the mixing process now, so that’s exciting,” he told Rolling Stone during a recent phone interview. “I’ve been in here since October of last year, and we’re still in there…. I made a whole record and mixed it and threw it away. [laughs] We’ve got a better record now for it.”
A title and release date for that record — Chesney’s 16th studio release — are still under wraps. But he has teased a bit of its first single, the mood-enhancing “American Kids.” (Watch a clip below.)
“When I heard it, I knew I was gonna cut it,” says the singer of the song, penned by Music Row powerhouses Rodney Clawson, Luke Laird and Shane McAnally. “It was unlike anything I’d ever heard — and I listen to a lot of songs. The rhythms, the images, the way the melody moved…. It just grabs you and holds on.”
“We’re all a little messed up/But we’re all all right,” he sings in the chorus of the track, which glorifies the happy-go-lucky kind of lifestyle Chesney sees in most of his fans.
“These are people who no matter what are in love with life, and they’re gonna find the good times no matter what.
“It’s not a perfect world,” he continues.”We are all a little screwed up, but we’re all okay. I love the idea of the screw up as part of it, because honestly, it makes the parts that are great that much better. You appreciate those things that much more.”
“American Kids” is set to hit country radio on June 20th and digital retailers on June 23rd.
