Snoopzilla Drops the Funk in ‘Faden Away’
Snoop Dogg rocked some healthy dreadlocks when he was reincarnated earlier this year as the reggae star Snoop Lion. Now the rapper’s re-emerged as Snoopzilla for his new collaboration with producer Dam-Funk, 7 Days of Funk – and in their fresh video for first single “Faden Away,” he’s sporting a blown-out Jheri curl so luscious, it would make Rick James jealous.
Snoop’s hairdo isn’t the only thing that’s traveled through time to make it into the “Faden Away” clip. The whole video looks like it came straight out of a grimy, early-1980s basement show, down to the big hair, big chains and plenty of spandex and jean jackets. Snoopzilla and Dam-Funk groove through the neo-funk cut onstage and later, while Dam wails away on keytar, Snoop ventures into the crowd to puff a blunt and hit on a cutie, who eventually leads him out of the club. We’re left with a “To be continued…” message and a lingering shot of a car idling in a back alley – and we’ll have to wait and see what could be going on in there.

Snoop and Dam-Funk first paired up in 2011 when the former invited the latter to join him onstage for a performance at SXSW. The duo are set to release their debut, 7 Days of Funk, on December 10th on Stones Throw Records. The album will feature cameos from Daz and Kurupt of Tha Dogg Pound, as well as drummer-singer Steve Arrington, a frequent Dam-Funk collaborator.
