Interpol Debut 3 New Songs Onstage in England
Interpol have been teasing their fifth studio album for months, and now fans have some tangible proof of its existence: According to Pitchfork, the brooding New York City trio debuted three new tracks – “My Desire,” “Anywhere” and “All the Rage Back Home” – during their Sunday night performance in Newcastle, England.

Cell phone recordings of both “Anywhere” (above, in full) and “My Desire” (below, in snippet form) have already been posted on Youtube: “Anywhere” is built on the spiraling, intertwined guitar riffs that dominated early albums like Turn on the Bright Lights, with frontman Paul Banks singing in his trademark monotone. Though the audio is fairly distorted, “My Desire” is more intriguing: The verses feature a disco drum beat and a sultry Banks croon building to an explosive chorus.
Back in December, the band tweeted a progress report on their new album: “Last day in the recording studio today,” they wrote. “Feeling good about the tracks so far. On to mixing the album next month!” Then in February, they revealed even more in a statement on their website: “Just putting the final touches on the new album, and it’s all feeling very good.”
No further details about the album (including its title or release date) are currently known, but with these new songs and their current tour schedule, a formal announcement seems imminent. Their most recent album, Interpol, was released in 2010.
