Watch Gruesome First Three Minutes of ‘Fear the Walking Dead’
As Fear the Walking Dead lurches menacingly closer to its Sunday premiere, AMC has released a preview of the pilot with a new clip comprising the show’s harrowing first three minutes.
The clip is, perhaps unsurprisingly, reminiscent of an early scene in the first episode of The Walking Dead, in which Rick Grimes awakes from a coma to find the hospital in disarray and a zombie apocalypse outside. The man in Fear the Walking Dead, however, is not another hero cop, however, but a junkie, Nick, played by Frank Dillane.
In the scene, Nick wakes up in a familiar, derelict setting, but the tension grows as he stumbles around the house in search of someone named Gloria. A sudden dead body sends him scrambling, and finally, in a big room, he finds the woman he’s been searching for, keeled over on the ground. Though Nick assumes she’s been hurt too, it turns out she’s actually in the middle of a meal.
In Fear the Walking Dead, Nick is the son of Madison, a guidance counselor played by Kim Dickens who’s romantically involved with Travis, the protagonist teacher played by Cliff Curtis. The show also stars Lorenzo James Henrie as Travis’ son Chris and Elizabeth Rodriguez as his ex-wife Liza. Alycia Debnam Carey plays Alicia, Madison’s Berkeley-bound daughter, while Ruben Blades co-stars as Daniel Salazar, an El Salvadorian immigrant living in Los Angeles with his daughter, played by Mercedes Mason.
Fear the Walking Dead functions more as a companion series to The Walking Dead than a traditional spinoff. It’s set in L.A. at the beginning of the outbreak, essentially when Grimes, in Georgia, was in his coma.
Fear the Walking Dead was created by franchise mastermind Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson (Sons of Anarchy), who will serve as show runner. The series premieres Sunday August 23rd at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
