Albert Lee Plays the ‘House That Les Paul Built’ – Premiere
Grammy-winning guitarist Albert Lee supports his latest release, Live at the Iridium, with this clip for “Country Boy,” an excerpt from the CD/DVD package. The British-born fingerstyle player – known to many as “Mr. Telecaster” – renders a scorching presentation of his song, which helped redefine country guitar when it first became a chart-topping hit for Ricky Skaggs in 1985.
“I am very happy to have a video recording of one of my performances at the Iridium Club,” Lee tells Rolling Stone. “It’s always such a pleasure to be asked to play at such an historic venue, and I hope there will be many more. Along with most of the guitar playing world, I was also a huge fan of the music of Les Paul, so it always gives me a thrill to be on what will always be his stage.”
“It is incredible to have one of the world’s great guitarists documented at Iridium, the House That Les Paul Built,” Iridium President Ron Sturm adds. “Great guitarists like Albert Lee and Les Paul are in our DNA.”
The new release includes performances of Lee originals and covers of numbers by Gram Parsons, Carl Perkins, Delbert McClinton and Ray Charles. Lee will return to the historic club next month (February 3rd-5th) for three consecutive nights, where he will be joined by a special guest, the folk legend Ramblin’ Jack Elliott. Tickets are available through the Iridium’s official website. The first night’s performance will be webcast live here.
