Black Sabbath Extend Tour Into 2014
Black Sabbath‘s reunion tour will continue in 2014 with a series of shows in North America and Europe. According to a press release, “These dates will be part of the band’s final shows of their 2013-2014 world tour.” The vast majority of the 10 North American shows will be in Canada, though it begins March 31st at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and wraps up April 26th at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
Where Does Black Sabbath Rank on our 100 Greatest Artists List?
The metal pioneers have been on the road in support of their reunion album 13 since April. The disc is their first release with Ozzy Osbourne since 1978’s Never Say Die!, though drummer Bill Ward wasn’t included due to a financial dispute. He was replaced by Rage Against the Machine‘s Brad Wilk on the album and Osbourne’s solo drummer Tony Clufetos on the road.
Ward, who recently underwent a successful surgery for perforated diverticulitis (a severe condition where the walls of the intestine become perforated), just revealed that he hasn’t even heard the new album. “The only thing I’ve heard from 13 is maybe 40 seconds of the first song, and then I turned it off,” Ward told Rock Celler Magazine. “I wish them all the luck – well, not luck, they don’t need luck – but I wish them all the best in the world. But for me, I can’t listen to it, it’s too close to home.”
Even without Ward, the tour has been a tremendous success. The set list has focused largely on their impressive catalog of hits (“Paranoid,” “Iron Man,” “Children of the Grave”), though they’re also playing deep cuts like “Rat Salad” and a handful of tunes from 13. The live album and DVD/Blu-ray Black Sabbath: Live . . . Gathered in Their Masses is due out on November 26th.
