Chromeo Run Vegas-Style Wedding Chapel, Urinate in Public in New Video
Electro-pop pair Chromeo deal in cheap, gaudy weddings in the video for “Jealous (I Ain’t With It)” from their forthcoming LP White Women, and frontman Dave 1 just can’t deal with seeing all these beautiful brides pass through wearing rings from other guys.
Dressed as a priest in sunglasses, he sings lyrics to the catchy, envy-infused number – which equally recalls Prince and Hall and Oates. (Though Dave 1 has likened it to Wyclef Jean and Mary J. Blige’s “911”.) As various cartoonish couples (the Flock of Seagulls couple, the cowboy couple, etc.) make their way down the aisle, the colorful video ends with a twist involving urinating in public, courtesy of Dave 1’s bandmate P-Thugg.
The duo originally worked on the song with production pair Oliver, but rejected the guitar riff that ensemble came up because it sounded too much like Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream.” That changed, according to Buzzfeed, when they added their calling cards: synth and slap bass.
The pair will release White Women – their fourth LP – on May 12th, and Dave 1 described it to Rolling Stone last year as “Larry David funk.” Furthermore, he loves all the implications of the record’s title. “It’s ambiguous – ethnic guys [Dave 1 is half Moroccan, P-Thugg is Lebanese] making a tribute to black music with an album called White Women,” he said. “We felt it was a challenge to this super conservative climate we’re feeling in America these days. We just wanted debates like this to be engaged. It’s interesting that the music we make can branch out into these conversations.”
