Hear Shaquille O’Neal’s TomorrowWorld DJ Mix
Shaquille O’Neal is many things: A genie, the law, averse to gravity. Now, the beloved big man is adding another title to his already robust resume – superstar DJ.
On Thursday, O’Neal – or, should we say, DJ Diesel – dropped a SoundCloud mix showcasing his skills, and previewing the “special Trap set” he’ll perform this later year at TomorrowWorld, the EDM fest that boasts a lineup of dance music’s biggest names, including Kaskade, Steve Angello, Tiësto, Martin Garrix and Hardwell.
The track opens with a sample of gang leader Cyrus’ speech from the 1979 cult classic The Warriors (“Can you dig it???”), then rushes headlong into a rattling remix of Waka Flocka Flame’s “Hard in Da Paint.” Lil’ Flip, O.T. Genasis, Beyoncé and Missy Elliott are also featured throughout the hour-long mix. And like Shaq in the low post, it’s heavy. But why read about it when you can hear DJ Diesel’s work for yourself:
Your move, Rony Seikaly.
O’Neal was actually perfecting his DJ technique during a recent club gig in Las Vegas, and anyone who’s followed his career both on and off of the court probably knows he’s been a music vet for a minute. He released four rap albums in the Nineties, guested on Fu-Schnickens’ Top 40 hit “What’s Up Doc? (Can We Rock?)” and even conducted the Boston Pops Orchestra in 2010, while playing for the Celtics.
Now, he’s headed for the big stage of TomorrowWorld, set for September 25-27 outside of Atlanta. Get your tickets now, before Kobe snaps them all up out of spite.
