Mac Miller Jazzes Up ‘The Star Room/Killin’ Time’ – Song Premiere
This summer, Mac Miller embarked on his Space Migration Tour with several friends and collaborators, including Earl Sweatshirt and Chance the Rapper. For the first time, he also performed with a band, the funk duo The Internet. “It was the most meaningful tour I’ve ever done,” he tells Rolling Stone. “My dream has been to play with a band. We took the songs and recreated how they worked.”

The Pittsburgh-bred rapper captures these road adventures on his debut live album, Live From Space, out December 17th. It serves as the follow-up to his critically-acclaimed second album, Watching Movies With the Sound Off, released this past summer. In addition to showcasing the MC’s versatility onstage, the live LP also features five previously-unreleased studio cuts with guest spots from rapper Future and bass wizard Thundercat.
Miller says performing with a band on the road allowed him to transform his songs in ways he never imagined. “The greatest part about playing with the band is it takes super-chill songs and makes them a little bit more upbeat,” he says, citing “The Star Room/Killin’ Time” — two tracks from Watching Movies performed in succession live, and given a jazzy swagger. Adds Miller of the track: “It starts super chilled-out, and as my voice gets more energy, the band follows. I love that!”
