Arc Iris Float On in ‘Dream Come True’ ‘Whiskey Man’ Video – Premiere
Arc Iris frontwoman Jocie Adams may be floating on the water under the warm moonlight in the video for “Whiskey Man,” but her amazing voice is the standout on this track from Arc Iris, which drops April 1st. The mesmerizing clip finds the former Low Anthem singer, multi-instrumentalist and ex-NASA researcher fulfilling a lifelong dream.
“The making of this video was one of the most wonderfully impromptu experiences of my life,” Adams tells Rolling Stone. “We decided to make a ‘Whiskey Man’ video and next thing I know I’m on the phone with [director] Matt Wignall, agreeing to come to Long Beach, getting on a plane, and ultimately landing with a bunch of brilliant people all cooperating in assembling a stage for a fourth grade school play, starring me! A dream finally come true.”
As for the track itself, which follows up the group’s first single, “Singing So Sweetly,” Adams lifted the cello part for “Whiskey Man” from the first classical piece that she ever penned. The album draws on a diverse array of influences, including Led Zeppelin, Grizzly Bear, Joni Mitchell, Chopin and Miles Davis.
Ahead of Arc Iris, the group – which also counts primary musicians Zach Tenorio-Miller (piano), Ray Belli (drums), Max Johnson (bass), Robin Ryczek (cello) and Mike Irwin (trumpet) among others – will appear at SXSW next month. Adams and her band are currently on a U.S. tour supporting Nicole Atkins.
