Angel Haze Leaks Her Own Album Out of Spite
Rapper Angel Haze took to Twitter this morning to leak her debut album, Dirty Gold. “Since they don’t want to put it out this year, I will,” she wrote. “Here’s the album. Here is Dirty Gold. I hope you enjoy it.” The 22-year-old accompanied the tweet with a SoundCloud link that has since been removed. Dirty Gold was originally scheduled to come out in January.

“Sorry to Island/Republic Records, but fuck you,” she wrote just before posting the link. “I got here doing this for my fans and if you guys don’t feel the same, it won’t stop me.” She added, “I don’t care what happens after this. [The fans] will get the music they were promised. And you guys [the label] just may learn to keep your fucking word.” Republic/Island has yet to comment on the matter.
The rapper began venting her rage last night, when she tweeted, “Frustration is building. Growing wildly out of control.” She then unleashed a litany of angry tweets directed at her label. “It’s so annoying that my label could tell me that if I fucking finished my album before the summer it would be out this year,” she wrote in one.
Then, in the ensuing series of tweets, she just let it all out. “I turned down so much shit to be sure that I could finish this album because actually wanting something to me means doing all you can to be sure that it’s attainable,” she wrote. Addressing her fans, she added, “I did not promise an album and not deliver, unlike every-fucking-one else. I sat my ass down and came up with this music when I had nothing.” After explaining that she felt like she had been “taking it on the chin,” she wrote, “Imagine having the only reason you’re alive being the very thing straining your existence. Ughhhh.”
Haze spoke with Rolling Stone last month about the album, under the assumption it would be coming out in January. “I am in Stoked City,” she said when asked how excited she was for the album to come out. “This morning, I woke up and got a link to the final, sterling masters and I freaked out. I’m so excited because it’s actually happening and that’s surreal for me. Fuck, I don’t even feel it completely until the day the album comes out and I just die. It’ll be an overload of emotions.”
