John Mayer to Kick Off Tumblr Q&A Series
John Mayer will help inaugurate Tumblr’s new interview series, Dashboard Confessions, on November 22nd at 7 p.m. Starting today, users can submit questions that Mayer will answer via his own Tumblr; answers will also be reposted on the site’s official music blog.
Also on November 22nd, Mayer will kick off the second leg of his headlining U.S. tour in Lincoln, Nebraska. Mayer began the trek – his first in three years after undergoing throat surgery – earlier this year, and recently celebrated the release of his sixth studio album, Paradise Valley. The tour will wrap up at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on December 17th.

Paradise Valley found Mayer moving more towards folk and country, though it also features collaborations with R&B star Frank Ocean and even on-again, off-again girlfriend Katy Perry. “For me, it’s about how being with anybody is settling,” Mayer recently told Rolling Stone of “Who You Love,” his duet with Perry. “You can really hear the joy on that song. We’re celebrating, like, ‘We give up! We give up – it’s you.’ And that’s oddly romantic, in this day and age, I think.”
Of the decidedly less pop-leaning record, Mayer says that sonic shift was part of his plan to move away from the fame he reached a few years back through several high-profile relationships and off-color jokes in interviews. “How great is it to not have to think in terms of ubiquity?” he said. “That shit was hard, man! I didn’t have any fun when I was trying to keep [my fame] elevated. It’s almost impossible. It’s Sisyphean. Now, playing shows is all the fame I need.”
