DJ Green Lantern’s Explosive Remix of ‘Know About Me’ – Song Premiere
On his remix of “Know About Me,” DJ Green Lantern blurs the lines between dance music and hip-hop in the most bombastic way possible. The DJ got started releasing the Invasion mixtape series, which were sponsored by Eminem’s Shady Records, before moving off to mix underground releases including the Jay Z-centered R.O.C. Stars Street Leak: American Gangster and Nas‘ controversial The N—er Tape.
The 25 DJs That Rule the Earth
On the original mix of “Know About Me,” DJ Green Lantern teamed with fellow producer-DJ Valentino Khan to create an electronic cut more in line with the current dance scene than the hip-hop world. But on the remix, the pair bring in rising (and polarizing) Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, merging the two worlds.
“The remix I did for Iggy Azalea’s ‘Bounce’ had already been received really well, so this is like a continuation of that working relationship,” DJ Green Lantern tells Rolling Stone. “The finished product is a really nice mix of ideas between Valentino Khan and I, using the vocals Iggy provided.”
The remix keeps the original’s marching-band drum cadence and sports-stadium dance beat. But things get explosive when Azalea’s impish, unrestricted verses drop in. Suddenly, the track lurches to a heavy, lumbering bass line and Azalea’s vocals are chopped up into glitchy fractions. After some experimentations with tribal drums, the mix then returns to its pounding arena rumble before collapsing on itself – the only fitting way for a track as volatile as this to end.
The remix is out February 10th on Beatport and February 11th worldwide. DJ Green Lantern is on tour now:
