Heads Rolls in First ‘Bastard Executioner’ Teaser
After Sons of Anarchy reached the end of its road, creator Kurt Sutter revealed that he was planning on traveling to medieval times for a new FX series called The Bastard Executioner. Sunday night at San Diego’s Comic-Con, the network offered a glimpse at the upcoming drama about a war-ravaged young knight who’s forced once again to pick up his sword and adopt the titular occupation, The Hollywood Reporter writes.
The series, which is currently filming in Wales, will star Lee Jones as the former warrior in King Edward’s army, plus Sutter’s wife/Sons of Anarchy actress Katey Sagal and True Blood‘s Stephen Moyer in unspecified roles. Rounding out the cast are Brían F. O’Byrne, SoA vet Timothy V. Murphy, Matthew Rhys and Sutter himself in the role of the Dark Mute.
The 10-episode first season of The Bastard Executioner will debut with a two-hour pilot this September. Sons of Anarchy executive producer Paris Barclay also helmed The Bastard Executioner‘s premiere episode.
In September 2014, when Sons of Anarchy was revving up for its series finale, Rolling Stone spoke to FX president John Landgraf about Sutter’s next series. “Ultimately, just like Sons of Anarchy, it’s got a very strong Shakespearean journey in the center of it,” Landgraf said.
In addition to The Bastard Executioner, the Sutter-penned boxing film Southpaw will open on July 24th. “When I’m not writing, I don’t quite know who I am,” Sutter told Rolling Stone. “I’m lost a little bit. It’s like, what am I? Who am I? What am I doing? I don’t do well. Idle hands and all. I’m a little bit fucked up. But it’s part of my charm.”
