Kobe Bryant’s Comeback Continues With New Documentary
Kobe Bryant’s 2013-14 season came to an end on December 17, when he fractured a bone in his left knee. It was his second major injury in less than a year – he had torn his Achilles tendon in April – and it had many wondering if, after 18 years, 5 NBA championships and more than 31,000 points, his legendary career was over.
This fall, Bryant will provide them with an answer, in a decidedly “Kobe” fashion: a feature-length documentary called Kobe Bryant’s Muse.
14 biggest upsets in NBA playoff history
The film, set to air on Showtime, will not only recount his storied career, but document his attempt to stage one last comeback from injury. At the same time, as Bryant prepares for what many believe will be his final season in the NBA, the film will focus on his life after the league, including recent business ventures through his new company, Kobe, Inc.
“At this critical juncture in his career, viewers will watch as Bryant attempts to cement his legacy, opening a window into the mind of an athlete still motivated to be the best,” Showtime said in a statement. “The documentary will … detail his mentorships, allies and rivalries that have helped shape his 18-year tenure in the NBA. With unbridled access to his daily experience, the film will reveal what makes Bryant tick and the life-long inspirations that have motivated him.”
There’s no confirmed premiere date for Kobe Bryant’s Muse, which is currently in production in Los Angeles. Bryant will serve as an executive producer on the film.
