Madonna Apologizes for Racial Slur on Instagram
Madonna sent out an apology on Saturday after sparking off a furor by using a racial slur in the caption of an Instagram photo of her son.
As Billboard reports, the singer had posted a photo of her 13-year-old son Rocco Ritchie sparring in a boxing ring on Friday. She captioned the photo, “No one messes with Dirty Soap! Mama said knock you out! #disn—a.” Shortly after receiving a flood of criticism for her word choice, Madonna re-posted the photo with a defiant new caption: “Ok let me start this again. #get off my dick haters!”

By Saturday, she had deleted the photo from Instagram altogether and posted a note that was considerably more contrite, while insisting that she had used the slur as a term of endearment.
“I am sorry if I offended anyone with my use of the N word on Instagram,” she wrote. “It was not meant as a racial slur.. I am not a racist. There’s no way to defend the use of the word. It was all about intention.. It was used as a term of endearment toward my son who is white. I appreciate that it’s a provocative word and I apologize if it gave people the wrong impression. Forgive me.”
She added another note in the caption to the new post: “MY job is to inspire and bring people together . My message has always been about tolerance and non judgement. The last thing I want to do is bring chaos or cause separation in anyway. #revolutionoflove”
