Josh Homme Plays ‘Disappointing Gay Man’ in New ‘Portlandia’ Clip
Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme drops by Portlandia this week, playing the, to quote Portlandia’s blog, “disappointing gay man” and slobbish brother of Carrie Brownstein in the new clip above.
The Best Musical Moments From Portlandia
With boyfriend Nick Swardson in tow, Homme plays the Guest Who Wouldn’t Leave, bringing in his dog Rambo, setting up an Xbox and requesting Jaeger bombs for breakfast. “We met at an ESPN zone,” says Swardson. “We got into a bar fight and then we ended up just making out in the bar. The whole bar freaked out.”
Contrary to Fred and Carrie’s hope that the duo would “help them decorate,” Homme and Swardson upend stereotypes and act more like boorish neanderthals, turning the house into a pizza box-strewn disaster. “I got totally ripped off on the ‘gay relative’ thing,” says Carrie.
Last year, IFC announced a slew of celebrity appearances for the show’s fourth season, including TV on the Radio‘s Tunde Adebimpe, Wilco leader Jeff Tweedy and former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, among other musicians. Armisen’s former Saturday Night Live colleagues Maya Rudolph and Vanessa Bayer have also popped up, along with Kirsten Dunst and Olivia Wilde. Among the familiar faces returning to the show are Ed Begley Jr., Steve Buscemi, St. Vincent’s Annie Clark, Jason Sudeikis and Gus Van Sant – plus Portland faux-mayor Kyle MacLachlan, naturally.
