Drake Crashes Kanye West’s Show in Toronto
Two of rap’s biggest names shared the stage last night when Kanye West brought out Drake for a surprise cameo during the Toronto stop of the former’s Yeezus tour – as if that trek couldn’t possibly get any bigger. You can check out a pretty decent-quality, fan-shot video of the pair’s performance, which starts out with West running through his verse from Drake’s “Forever.”
While the shaky camerawork misses Drake’s grand entrance, the quite audible screams from the audience certainly do the hometown hero justice. After spitting his own “Forever” verse, West cedes the stage to Drake for a victorious, half a cappella rendition of “All Me,” off the rapper’s latest, Nothing Was the Same. And while Drake may be a rap hotshot, he still knows where and when to pay tribute, leading the crowd in a bowing down to Yeezus before heading offstage.
Kanye West Held Nothing Back in 2013: Check Out the Rapper’s Best Quotes of the Year
West and Drake dominated both the pop and rap spheres in 2013, thanks to their respective records Yeezus and Nothing Was the Same – both which happened to claim the top spots of Rolling Stone‘s list of 2013’s best hip-hop albums. Last night’s Toronto show also marked the end of West’s Yeezus tour, a lengthy trek that was at times plagued with technical difficulties and accentuated by a string of outrageous interviews.
New father West will likely take a well-earned rest to start 2014, though it looks like he’ll also have to deal with a lawsuit from a former child soul singer who claims the rapper sampled his voice without permission on “Bound 2.” As for Drake, the rapper is set to kick off 2014 in a big way; he will pull double-duty as host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live when the show returns on January 18t.
