Stream Johnny Cash’s Lost LP, ‘Out Among the Stars’
Johnny Cash‘s heavily anticipated “lost album,” Out Among the Stars, is currently streaming in full at The Guardian, one week before its March 25th release date.
Why Johnny Cash Is One of the Greatest Singers Ever
The LP features 12 previously unheard songs recorded between 1981 and 1984, during a low-point in the country legend’s career. Producer Billy Sherrill was brought on to help maximize Cash’s commercial potential, but the label eventually dropped their fading superstar and set the master tapes aside. Last year, the recordings (which include duets with June Carter Cash and Waylon Jennings) were unearthed by archivists at Sony Legacy and Cash’s son, John Carter Cash.
While pre-orders are currently available, go ahead and immerse yourself in the album’s sprawl – from the triumphant opener “Out Among the Stars” to the stirring ballad “After All.” Bits and pieces of the LP have already been made available, including a short teaser and a moody video for the melancholy tune “She Used to Love Me a Lot.”
John Carter Cash recently spoke about the latter song in an interview with Rolling Stone. “I really love this song,” he said. “The depth that’s there reminds me of the real serious stuff that Dad did later in his life. And I truly think it’s one of the beautiful undiscovered gems in my dad’s catalog.”
