In a press release, the Emmy winning actor said he would, “tell the stories of my life and reveal the secrets and lies that I lived with for six years shooting Breaking Bad.” As for his writing chops, Cranston has a couple of screenwriting credits to his name, but Scribner publisher Nan Graham added that Cranston, “writes the way he acts – with fierce commitment, intelligence and humor.”
Building a massive résumé with one-off and supporting characters in movies and television (including a bit role as Jerry’s dentist on Seinfeld), Cranston rose to prominence in the early 2000s as Hal, the father on the hit sitcom Malcolm in the Middle. In 2008, he debuted in his career-defining role as Walter White, a chemistry teacher-turned-meth cook, on Breaking Bad, for which he ultimately won four Emmys for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series and one Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series.
In the wake of Breaking Bad, which ended last year, Cranston has branched out further into the world of film – he’s appeared in movies like Drive and The Lincoln Lawyer – as well as theatrical productions. He’s currently starring on Broadway as President Lyndon B. Johnson in the play All the Way and is set to appear in the upcoming remake of Godzilla.
