The Districts Are Set to Go National – EP Premiere
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania’s the Districts serve up an impressive EP that straddles the line between imaginative indie rock and brisk blues-inflected folk. Premiering here in advance of next Tuesday’s release (January 28th), The Districts is, simply put, the sound of a promising young band.

“Funeral Beds” is an outstanding song with tinges of vintage, introspective Dylan that could give the Lumineers a run for their money, while the reflective rocker “Rocking Chair” is nearly as memorable, as Mark Larson’s pensive guitar gives way to Rob Grote’s emotive vocals. Elsewhere, “Lyla” is heartfelt and contemplative, and “Long Distance” balances bright tones with ruminative lyrics.
“This EP has three remastered songs from our self-released album from 2012,Telephone, as well as two new songs (“Rocking Chair,” ” Stay Open”),” drummer Braden Lawrence explains. “We’re really excited to have our music on vinyl, and for our old songs to be heard by a wider audience.”
The Districts, who also feature bassist Connor Jacobus, have earned more than 300,000 views for their Hotbox Studios performance of “Funeral Beds.” The group has a busy 2014 mapped out, beginning with a tour supporting White Denim next month. That trek gets underway in New Orleans at One Eyed Jack’s on February 19th and runs through March 8th at Mercy Lounge in Nashville. An appearance at this year’s SXSW in Austin is also planned.
