David Crosby ‘Stoked’ About New Album – Premiere
Croz, the first new album from rock legend David Crosby in more than two decades, will be released on January 28th. Ahead of the long-anticipated 11-song set, this exclusive video captures the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer (inducted for his work with the Byrds and Crosby, Stills and Nash) discussing his influences and his unorthodox writing approach while offering an inside look at the creative process between him, his son James Raymond and guitarist Marcus Eaton.
‘Croz’ and 60 More Reasons to Love 2014
“Since what we do is serve the song, the writing pretty much defines the record for us,” Crosby tells Rolling Stone. “James has matured as a writer – his stuff is very strong. I am writing with him and by myself, and several times Marcus joined us . . . I am very happy with the level of the songs on this record – stoked, in fact.”
The album features a number of iconic guest players, including guitarist Mark Knopfler on the track “What’s Broken” and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis on “Holding On to Nothing. ” It will be released through Blue Castle Records, the label Crosby founded with Graham Nash in 2012.
Crosby, keyboardist Raymond, Eaton, guitarist Shane Fontayne, bassist Kevin McCormick and drummer Steve DiStanislao will hit the road this month for dates in support of Croz. After a sold-out show this Thursday (January 16th) at Santa Barbara’s Lobero Theatre, Crosby has a run of multi-night engagements lined up at New York’s City Winery, the Barns at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia, Chicago’s City Winery, San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall and L.A.’s Troubadour through February 28th. Tour dates and additional information are available here.
Rolling Stone will be premiering the full album stream of Croz starting Tuesday, January 21st.
