Watch Marky Ramone, Frank Vincent Fight Flying Zombie Heads in Animated Clip
Life of Agony bassist Alan Robert’s comic-book mini-series Killogy has been an indie hit since its 2012 release, due to its Tarantino-esque mix of dark humor and gory violence alongside a bizarre celebrity cast. The series is set during a zombie apocalypse and centers on three accused murderers who bear uncanny resemblances to tough-guy actor Frank Vincent (Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Sopranos), punk icon Marky Ramone and Heroes actress Brea Grant.
Now Killogy is stepping off the page to become an animated series, and its stars – joined by ex-Misfits guitarist Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein, who battled cannibalistic bounty hunters in his own Halloween special issue of Killogy in 2014 – are lending both their likenesses and voice-acting talents. In the teaser trailer above, the motley crew take on disembodied, airborne zombie heads in an apocalyptic Brooklyn where a voodoo curse has awakened the dead and flooded the streets in blood.
“I had specific ideas on what these characters should look like and I’d constantly find myself comparing them to the stars we ended up approaching,” Robert said at the time of the comic books’ release. “When I was growing up, I must’ve seen Goodfellas and Raging Bull about 40 times each, easy,” he added. “I mean, I can still recite entire scenes by heart. The same goes for my old Ramones records. They are total classics to me. So now, to be working with some of my childhood heroes, it’s a great honor and at the same time, it’s a bit surreal.”
Robert’s heroes are finding the experience to be mind-bending as well. “When I was approached to lend my likeness to a comic book, I didn’t know what that meant, but it was a big thrill for me,” Vincent commented in a statement. “And now voicing [Vincent’s character] Sally Sno-Cones in the 3D animation, it’s amazing. I feel like Superman!”
Marky Ramone expressed similar enthusiasm: “If anyone can survive an ocean of blood and an army of possessed monsters,” he said, “it’s a drummer from Brooklyn!”
The Killogy animated series is being produced by Wasted Talent Entertainment, consisting of Robert, Chris White (V/H/S Viral) and Jeff Mazzola (Descent) in association with Squeeze Studio Animation and award-winning producer Rodney Barnes (The Boondocks, Everybody Hates Chris).
