Grammy Executive Producer Apologizes to Trent Reznor
The Grammys may have enjoyed their second biggest ratings in over 20 years, but the show’s ending wasn’t as triumphant for Trent Reznor. The Nine Inch Nails frontman was tapped for a closing number that featured his band, Queens of the Stone Age, Fleetwood Mac‘s Lindsey Buckingham and Dave Grohl. Moments after the conclusion, Reznor tweeted “Music’s biggest night. . . to be disrespected. A heartfelt FUCK YOU guys” after realizing that the Queens’ song got cut off. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Ken Ehrlich was asked about Reznor’s reaction and it’s clear he felt a bit bad about the whole thing – but still defended his actions.

“I’m sorry he was upset,” Ehrlich said. “I was really thrilled we were finally getting him on the Grammys. I did tell them we’d take it as long as we could. The number was about five, six minutes long, and we got to within a minute twenty of the end. We got as close as we could possibly get.”
The show closer featured Nine Inch Nails opening with their Hesitation Marks tune “Copy of A” which morphed into the Queens’ song “My God Is the Sun.” The telecast had already run over by about 15 minutes and viewers were left with just half the song.
“There are many ups and downs during the course of the show,” Ehrlich said when asked about the show’s different performance styles. “It’s a bad word these days, but it’s variety, the one thing left that live event television can do that you don’t get elsewhere.”
Reznor’s currently prepping to tour Japan and Australia with Nine Inch Nails and he recently hinted that the band could start working on something this year as well. He’s also reteaming with director David Fincher to score his upcoming film Gone Girl, out later this year.
