The xx Lock in Intimate New York Residency for Spring
The xx will shack up in New York City for an 11-date, 25-show residency at Wade Thompson Drill Hall at the Park Avenue Armory between March 19th and March 29th, 2014. Performing two shows a night – except weekend gigs on March 22nd, 23rd and 29th, when they’ll do three – the band will limit their audience to just 40 people per performance.
The residency is modeled almost exactly after the group’s stint at the Manchester International Festival this past summer. Tickets for the xx’s run are available through the Park Avenue Armory’s website and priced at $55.

Last year, the xx followed up their 2009 breakout debut with Coexist and toured extensively behind the record through much of 2013, bringing their understated sound to larger and larger audiences (including at Governors Ball, Coachella and Bonnaroo).
Member Jamie Smith – a/k/a Jamie xx – has also risen to prominence as a go-to DJ, producer and remixer, often playing DJ sets after xx shows. Back in April, Jamie xx told Rolling Stone about how his work as a DJ has affected the xx’s live show. “It’s definitely separate in sound, but with the xx show, we’ve been getting more into creating a long moment of dancing, which hopefully people can get into – with lighting effects that you would find at a rave,” he said. “That definitely came from DJing and equally from playing live. We’ve worked out how to take a journey.”
