Metric Release ‘Synthetica’ Companion Album and App
Metric are giving fans the chance to create new versions of tracks from their album Synthetica with a brand new interactive app released today, along with Synthetica Reflections, a companion LP to the 2012 release. Both are available from iTunes.

The app will allow users to remix 11 tracks from Synthetica and Synthetica Reflections, as well as re-sequence them in whatever order they’d like. The design of the app was inspired by the late-Sixties Italian architecture collective Superstudio, whose work and imagery also made a big impact on Metric as they recorded Synthetica. You can try out the app for free with album cut “Lost Kitten”; each additional song will cost 99 cents, though you can pick up the whole thing for $7.99.
While Synthetica Reflections was previously available on streaming services – with some tracks appearing on the deluxe edition of Synthetica – its availability on iTunes marks its official wide release. Produced by Metric guitarist James Shaw, Reflections is an instrumental reworking of the original album and was performed entirely on a variety of analogue synthesizers.
Synthetica was recently nominated for Polaris Music Prize (though Godspeed You! Black Emperor took home Canada’s top honor for Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend!); and you can also check out Metric’s new video for the album’s title cut, in which front woman Emily Haynes battles three replicas of herself in a twisted, macabre museum.
