David Bowie, Ellie Goulding, Disclosure Nominated for BRIT Awards
The BRIT Awards nominations are out, and it’s a good year for newcomers. Disclosure and Bastille lead the pack with four nods each, and the dance-pop groups will face off against each other in all of their categories: British Breakthrough Act, British Group, British Single and MasterCard British Album of the Year.
Other artists who could possibly win multiple trophies at Great Britain’s equivalent to the Grammys include Ellie Goulding, Rudimental, Arctic Monkeys and David Bowie. Bowie previously won the BRIT Awards‘ Outstanding Contribution Award in 1996.
The awards ceremony will take place at London’s O2 Arena at 8 p.m. GMT on February 19th. It will be broadcast live on Great Britain’s iTV. Comedian James Corden, who has hosted the past two BRIT Awards, will preside over the ceremony again.

Arctic Monkeys are set to open the program, which will also feature performances by nominees Ellie Goulding, Bruno Mars and Katy Perry. “The Brits has always showcased the music that I love and am influenced by,” said Perry, according to the BBC.
This year marks the first time since 2002 that the awards show has featured a British Video of the Year award, according to the BBC, though its organizers have not yet released the nominees. Voting for that category will be left up to each group’s fans using social media, and the BBC predicts One Direction to win that category. It also predicts that group will receive a Global Success Award. This year also will be the second year in a row that the BRIT Awards will not present an Outstanding Contribution Award.
Last year’s ceremony featured performances by Muse, Justin Timberlake and One Direction, and it bestowed Ben Howard and Emeli Sandé with multiple awards. Sandé’s Our Version of Events won British Album of the Year, while Adele’s “Skyfall” won British Single of the Year.
BRIT Award winners each receive a special trophy designed by hat designer Philip Treacy. It was revealed Thursday night when pop artist Sam Smith received the first BRIT Award of 2014, Critic’s Choice.
