CeeLo Says Gnarls Barkley Will Reunite ‘Like, Next Year’
CeeLo Green recently said that Gnarls Barkley, his funky soul duo with Danger Mouse, will reunite in 2014. After being confronted at LAX by one of TMZ‘s pesky newshounds, the Voice judge said that the “Crazy” collaborators are planning on working together again. “Like, next year,” said Green, who was wearing a rubbery-looking jumpsuit and face-covering sunglasses as if he wouldn’t be recognized, before getting on an escalator. And just before the 20-second video ended, he even wished the TMZer, “Happy Holidays.” The gossip site then speculated that the reunion may occur at Coachella, like the rumors swirling about another fractured group.
Where Does ‘Crazy’ Rank Among the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time?
Although Gnarls Barkley never announced any kind of a breakup, they were most active between 2004 and 2008, when they performed together for the last time. In 2006, they released their debut, St. Elsewhere, which contained the smash hit “Crazy.” Rolling Stone ranked the record among the 100 Best Albums of the 2000s. They followed it up with The Odd Couple in 2008.
After that, Green resumed his solo work, eventually releasing 2010’s The Lady Killer, which contained the hit “Fuck You,” and a Christmas album last year.
Meanwhile, Danger Mouse has been recording with his other duo Broken Bells, a collaboration with the Shins‘ James Mercer. Their second album, After the Disco, is due out next month. He’s also kept himself busy recording with Daniele Luppi for a record called Rome, as well as a collaboration with Sparklehorse and David Lynch, dubbed Dark Night of the Soul. He’s also produced albums for Beck, Norah Jones, the Black Keys and Portugal. the Man, among others. Lately, he’s been producing the next U2 record.
CeeLo Green told Rolling Stone in 2010 that he wanted to do one more Gnarls Barkley album. “We’ll definitely do one more,” he said. “And that’s so crazy, because we were only supposed to do one.”
