Beck Hands Out New Song ‘I Won’t Be Long’
Beck released new song “I Won’t Be Long” today, a seductive two-chord number that is now streaming on YouTube. Beck debuted the song yesterday at Paris’ Days Off Festival by providing concertgoers with peelaway cards leading to the online stream. It’s a chorus-heavy single, poised on the repeated promise “I won’t be long, long, long” and wedged between characteristically enigmatic verses. “Broken recognition / No one has a clue where we are,” Beck sings. Apparently, that’s the way he likes it.

According to a press release, Beck has no plans to lay “I Won’t Be Long” (or “Defriended,” the spacey track Beck let go earlier this summer) on an album, though Rolling Stone reported last month that Beck has two albums in the works: an acoustic album and a follow-up to 2008’s Modern Guilt. “I Won’t Be Long” will see release as a limited edition 12″ vinyl that includes a 15-minute extended version.
Beck is scheduled to play two U.K. acoustic shows as part of his overseas tour this weekend, and he’s set to return to the U.S. to join Bob Dylan, Wilco and others at Jones Beach’s Americanarama Festival on July 27th. He will also appear at the Life is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas in October.
