This will be the duo’s first apperance at the Video Music Awards, but they have plenty of MTV credentials, having played both the mtvU Woodie Awards and the MTV Movie Awards this year.
“Same Love,” their tribute to marriage equality, is nominated for Best Video with a Social Message, and they’ve also racked up nominations for their smash singles “Can’t Hold Us” (Best Hip-Hop Video) and “Thrift Shop” (Video of the Year). All told, Macklemore and Lewis earned six nominations, which means they’re tied with Justin Timberlake for the evening’s most nods.
R&B sensation (and past RS cover star) Bruno Mars is also joining the list of VMA performers. He’ll unveil his next single with its debut TV performance. The star-studded evening will also feature spots from Timberlake, Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Robin Thicke and Katy Perry, among others.
The 2013 VMAs will air Sunday, August 25th at 9 p.m. EST.
