‘Glee’ Episode for Cory Monteith Focuses on Fans’ Grief
Ryan Murphy has shared new details on the future of Glee in a recent interview with Deadspin, and shed light on what’s to become of main character Finn Hudson in the wake of Cory Monteith’s death.
Look Back at Cory Monteith‘s Most Memorable ‘Glee’ Performances
“There were a lot of things that we had to decide — how are we going to deal with his death? At one point, we were going to have his character die after an accidental drug overdose — that was something we had considered,” the show’s co-creator said.
But ultimately, the writers and producers decided not to have the character suffer the same fate as the real-life Monteith, who died from a result of heroin and alcohol toxicity in a Canadian hotel room on July 13th. He was 31.
“We have decided that we’re not going to have him pass from that. Basically, what we’re doing in the episode is we are not telling you yet, or maybe not at all, how that character died,” said Murphy.
Murphy and the rest of the cast and crew are set to begin shooting the memorial episode next week, and will take a two to three-week break from production.
“We loved Cory and we loved Finn and it feels like a huge loss and a huge heartache not to have either of them around. We’re trying to craft an episode that’s not just about us grieving but about a lot of the young fans grieving.”
