TV on the Radio Rise Above ‘Trouble’ With Meditative New Video
“You keep telling yourself, ‘Everything’s gonna be OK,'” TV on the Radio frontman Tunde Adebimpe belts on the anthemic Seeds track “Trouble.” The band drives home that encouraging message with the song’s new video, which finds the singer encouraging and consoling strangers he meets on the street.
“I just happen to like looking at people and wondering what’s up,” Adebimpe told Time of the clip’s inspiration. “We got some people together, some of whom we ran into on the street while we were shooting, and did that. We asked if they could quietly (or not) go to brighter or darker places inside themselves [and] let us be there with them for a little while. Everyone’s sifting through something, right?”
TV on the Radio have been touring behind Seeds throughout 2015, though they were forced to cancel a run of U.K. and European dates after drummer Jahphet Landis was hospitalized for unspecified reasons. The band’s next American jaunt begins on May 8th with a performance at Atlanta’s Shaky Knees Festival, with dates running throughout the month. They also have shows in Japan and Australia, along with several U.S. festival appearances, scheduled throughout the summer. Visit the band’s website for the full tour breakdown.
Seeds is the band’s fifth LP – and their first without bassist Gerard Smith, who died in 2011 from lung cancer.
“For me, he’s so in my consciousness whenever I’m doing almost anything creative,” Adebimpe told Rolling Stone. “Anybody who’s really close to you is not as accessible, at least on this plane, as they used to be – for me, it’s like they’ve taken a seat on my board of directors. That person is always in the back of my head, saying, ‘Are you serious? Are you really going to do that?’ It’s impossible for us to make a record without having him there. With me, he’s a constant presence.”
