Arcade Fire Release Gorgeously Melancholy ‘Afterlife’ Video
In Arcade Fire‘s new video for “Afterlife,” the band presents a night in the life of a Spanish-speaking father and his two young sons. While it would be easy to settle on the idea that the clip, directed by Emily Kai Bock and produced by the Creators Project, is simply about a dad falling asleep and his kids’ nighttime restlesness, this is Arcade Fire, and nothing is ever that simple. As the video unfolds, we see that the bonds that held this family together are breaking. Given the song’s title, we can infer that the mother of the children, and wife of the husband, has died and grief has taken hold in various ways: fear, sadness, and longing. It’s a gorgeously shot and a beautiful little story that adds bittersweet layers to this excellent Reflektor tune.
Win Butler Reveals Secret Influences on Arcade Fire’s ‘Reflektor’
After releasing Reflektor in October to a bevy of critical acclaim, Arcade Fire have played a handful of smaller shows in support of their fourth album. They recently announced a U.S. arena tour that kicks off in March at Louisville, Ky.’s KFC Yum! Center and takes them around the country through August 2014. For those shows, they implied that there would be a “dress code” but recently came out and said that fans should “relax” and that it’s just a fun thing that patrons could consider.
