Dude York Trash a Living Room in Lo-Fi ‘Cannibal’ Video – Premiere
Indie trio Dude York invade the living room of a cramped apartment in their new video for “Cannibal,” the primal rock anthem from the recent album Dehumanize. In the clip, the Seattle (by way of Walla Walla, Washington) trio makes the most of its digs, pushing a mattress against the wall for a riotous, bong and pizza-fueled party.

“‘Cannibal’ is a song about literal and figurative hunger that came about in a period of intense in-betweens,” the band’s co-founders Peter Richards and Andrew Hall tell Rolling Stone. “We were hungry for something to happen, for a feeling that would cut through the disconnect we felt at the time, for an end to a patriarchy.
“The conversation around the video was about finding new means by which to convey aggressive energy and disrupt traditional rock music performance,” the dudes of Dude York continue. “[It] took shape through jump cuts, time distortion and distractions. We shot it over the course of a day in the producer’s apartment. His neighbors very much loved hearing the same song played at least 30 times in a period of eight hours.”
The trio – which includes bassist Claire England in addition to singer-guitarist Richards and drummer Hall – worked with producer and Neighbors frontman José Diaz for nearly a year on the melodic, powerful Dehumanize. In support of the debut, Dude York plays the Knockout in San Francisco tonight (March 4th) and the Satellite in Los Angeles tomorrow. Later this month, the trio will play the Treefort Music Festival (March 20th – 23rd) in Boise before returning home to play Seattle’s Penumbra Beer Bash with Broken Water, Chastity Belt and others on March 29th.
