Alternative Oakland hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics are back with their new video for “It’s Partly Me.” The group, founded in the early 1990s by rapper Del tha Funkee Homosapien, recently teamed up with DJ/producer group the Sleeprockers on the upcoming joint album The Kitchen. Its tracks tackle American and international culture, and will be released on July 16th.

The video for the album’s second single, “It’s Partly Me,” is set in 1973-4 in Oakland and West Oakland (retro white block letters distinguish between the years and areas). It showcases members of the collective in full 1970s style, from ‘staches and ‘fros to round glasses and patterned button-down shirts.
“The video is like a throwback concept to blaxploitation movies from the 1970s,” collective member Pep Love tells Rolling Stone. “We’ve got costumes and different looks. It’s a funny video.”
