New ASAP Mob Album Will Have a ‘Nineties Sound With a Twist’
Late this summer, A$AP Mob tweeted that their debut album would be released on October 15th, but the New York City hip-hop group, led by A$AP Rocky, isn’t fretting over that missed deadline. Instead, they’re relishing the opportunity to slowly create the follow-up to last year’s mixtape, Lord$ Never Worry.
“We’re working on perfection,” A$AP Ferg told Rolling Stone at a recent signing event in L.A. for their self-titled book about Harlem, distributed by FRANK151. “We don’t want to rush it this time around. With the mixtape, we kind of had supply and demand but now we have to regroup and come out with a dope project.”

Though A$AP Ferg wasn’t able to provide a release date, he said that the group has already laid down scads of tracks that are honing in on a throwback vibe. “We have a lot of songs but the matter is picking the right songs,” he said. “We’re going for the early and late Nineties sound with a twist,” Ferg continued. “We’ve got Ty Beats — it’s a lot of the same producers that we’ve been working with but it’s next level.”
A$AP Mob’s decision to delay that album isn’t all too surprising considering its members’ busy year, which saw successful debut LPs from both Rocky and Ferg. Between releasing Trap Lord, embarking on a global tour, and compiling the group’s first book, Ferg is still reeling from his newfound fame. “I think it’s dope that someone cares enough to do a book on us,” the rapper added. “Even today, everybody showing up for a book signing is crazy. I’ve seen people bringing other, inspirational books that have nothing to do with A$AP. They just want me to sign their favorite books. I think it’s cool because that means we’re inspiring kids.”
