Bob Odenkirk Asks ‘What Is Puscifer?’
Maynard James Keenan knows you have questions, and he’s recruited Breaking Bad star Bob Odenkirk to ask on your behalf. “What is Puscifer?” Odenkirk wonders, before speculating. “It’s part of a lady, right? Men have it, too? Is it something you should have checked out?”

The questions are posed as a means of advertising Puscifer’s concert film/sketch comedy/mockumentary hybrid, “What Is . . .,” which was released on November 26th on DVD and iTunes. (The soundtrack is now available too.) “We recommend people that hadn’t seen the show watch the documentary, so you can kind of see the documentary attached to the actual live footage, just because there’s a lot of stuff that comes up in the show that if you don’t know anything about the other characters, it doesn’t really make any sense,” Keenan recently told Rolling Stone, citing Andy Kaufman as a comedic influence.
Interspersed with Odenkirk’s queries in the trailer come answers in the form of Puscifer’s pounding guitars and haunting vocal harmonies. The Tool and A Perfect Circle frontman once described his side project in a Rolling Stone interview as “my attempt to make music to inspire people.” In this video, wearing a blonde mullet wig and mustache, he puts it another way: “We are punk rock! I will fuckin’ mosh all over you!”
Keenan, who starred as himself in a couple episodes of Odenkirk’s Mr. Show nearly 20 years ago, will be celebrating his 50th birthday on May 10th by performing with Puscifer and A Perfect Circle.
