Edward Sharpe Announce Circus-Themed Big Top Fest
The circus surrounding Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros got a little more expansive today as the band announced Big Top, a festival that will take place in L.A. on October 17th-20th. The band is teaming up with Live Nation to revive the spirit of traveling troubadours and the intimacy of performing to crowds beneath lambent lighting enclosed in a curtained space.
“If you tour, or you have been to a ‘professional’ show, you may have had the sense that something is missing from the experience…And so, here comes the idea of Big Top — a one-off experiment in reaching for a more colorful, soulful, way to tour,” said Alex Ebert in a statement.
The circus experience was created and curated by the band, and the festivities will take place beneath a traditional big top tent and include film and art installations leading to an intimate performance in the round by Sharpe and his band. A farmer’s market, beer garden, and other musical performances will take place outside the tent, rounding out the carnivalesque experience. Big Top will also feature vaudeville comedy, contortionists, acrobats, puppetry and interactive performance art.
Big Top comes at a busy time for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. The band performed at the Hollywood Bowl last night with Airborne Toxic Event violinist Anna Bulbrook, and released Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros at the end of July.
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are set to kick off a fall tour on August 17th.
