Gogol Bordello Conquer Hell in ‘Lost Innocent World’ – Premiere
Gogol Bordello’s “Lost Innocent World, ” a track from this year’s Pura Vida Conspiracy, kicks off with quiet intensity. A driving beat, supplemented by eastern European instruments, grows in the background as frontman Eugene Hutz spins a tale of intercontinental travel in his thick Ukrainian accent. From there, the song builds in volume and ferocity until it erupts into a massive chorus of “Lost innocent world!”

Meanwhile, the track’s music video, which was created in conjunction with MOCAtv, the contemporary art video Channel of Los Angeles’ Museum of Contemporary Art, presents an abstract interpretation. Hutz is forced inside an hourglass, spun around until he is dizzy, and eventually blasted out of it with a gunshot. In a release, Hutz spoke of the video’s meaning: “The hourglass here signifies that hell, where people are too busy living in the future or living in the past,” he said. “Meanwhile, the actual and most alive part of life is indeed now. It really is yours for the taking, if you are interested in aliveness.”
Gogol Bordello are on tour in Europe now and will be back in the States by year’s end.
