Teenage Bottlerocket Get Weird With ‘Freak Out!’ – Premiere
Teenage Bottlerocket had an opulent concept for their video for “Freak Out!” but it quickly gave way to a messier, scuzzier idea. “We went into this video trying to recreate the nine-minute-and-nine-second-long video of [Guns N’ Roses‘] ‘November Rain,'” director and former Against Me! bassist Andrew Seward tells Rolling Stone. “What we came out with was a 40-second video of breaking bottles over each other’s heads.”

For the Wyoming pop-punkers, the lighting-quick “Freak Out!” was a good time befitting its title. “Andrew invited us to a warehouse to get weird. We weren’t entirely sure what kind of weirdness he was talking about, but we decided to roll the dice and meet up,” group bassist Miguel Chen tells Rolling Stone. “Turns out he was talking about a music video; some of us felt relief that it wasn’t some sort of S&M party or something. Some of us were not as relieved.”
Teenage Bottlerocket were soon in their element. “Anyway, we shot this video. We drank beers, played music and broke things,” Chen says. “It was super fun. We are adults. Oh and then we ate tacos, like adults.”
“Freak Out!” is on Teenage Bottlerocket’s 2012 album, Freak Out! They’re currently on a worldwide tour, with their next show set for tonight at the Basement in Columbus, Ohio. For full tour dates, visit Teenage Bottlerocket’s website.
