Prince Tweets Funky New Single ‘Da Bourgeoisie’
Prince has posted a new track to his Twitter earlier today, which he accompanied with a humorous explanation of the song title. “‘Da Bourgeoisie’ is the title of the new song, not ‘Ray Charles,’ ‘Bearded Lady’ or anything else prejudicial,” he wrote. And in case anyone wondered, “No mammals were harmed during the recording of this track.” (No word on reptiles, amphibians or birds.)

The sparse, bass-thumping track finds Prince singing about catching somebody “kicking it with another girl” amidst intermittent washes of guitar fuzz and whooshing cymbals. Later in the song he sings the line he expected his fans might find confusing, “Just another bearded girl at the cabaret. . . Charles,” but despite that he does sing about the “slippery lips of the bourgeoisie.” The MP3 he posted linked to was titled generically “01 Track 1,” but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will be part of larger release.
Lately, Prince has been abiding by his own rules, posting new songs to Twitter, like the jazzy blues number “The Sweeter She Is,” and sharing videos like “Breakfast Can Wait” when he feels like it. He’s hosted concerts at his Paisley Park Studio in Minneapolis, as well as a pajama party. Despite the surfeit of new music, the artist has yet to announce a new album, even if he is still putting out new music on his NPG Records label. In October, his backing band 3rdEyeGirl posted a 30-second teaser that heralded the release of a digital remix EP, titled The Breakfast Experience, which came out that month.
