Ron Burgundy Lending His Name to Emerson College
Emerson College in Boston is renaming its School of Communication after Will Ferrell‘s Anchorman character, Ron Burgundy, according to its website. The name change will last one day only, December 4th, but for 24 hours, the Ron Burgundy School of Communication will honor the fictitious newsman. To coincide with the rechristening, Ferrell will visit the school in character to impart his journalistic wisdom to students. While there, the character, who likes telling people he’s “kind of a big deal,” will hold a news conference, attend the renaming ceremony and introduce a screening of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, which officially hits theaters on December 20th. The naming ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. EST on December 4th and stream live on Emerson’s website.

The college’s president, Lee Pelton, said on the school’s website, “A visit from Ron Burgundy is a chance to engage with someone who understands the power of media, as well as hairspray, first-hand.” Likewise, the School of Communication’s interim dean, Phillip Glenn, said the renaming “compels us to honor the Ron Burgundy that’s inside all of us.”
Burgundy was quoted as saying, “I had to pinch myself really hard when I learned that Emerson College was naming its School of Communication for me. It’s kind of a big deal. I can’t wait to inspire students with my story of how I got to the top . . . the very top. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. It’s a lot of work, especially if you don’t have good hair.”
In related “kind of a big deal” news, “Anchorman: The Exhibit,” opened at Washington D.C.’s Newseum. It will feature a display of the movie’s costume and props and footage from the movie, as well as the “Channel 4 Evening News” desk, through August 31st, 2014.
