Switchfoot Hit the Road in ‘Who We Are’ – Premiere
Switchfoot’s new clip for “Who We Are” is a revealing look at life on the road and also a teaser for more projects to come. The material is culled from the band’s forthcoming EP and documentary film, both called Fading West, and paves the way for a full length album of same name that drops in January. “Who We Are” offers a keen glimpse at the Grammy-winning San Diego quintet as they canvassed the globe last year, hitting picturesque spots like Bali and Australia with their guitars and surfboards in tow.

Touted as “part rock documentary, part surf film and part travelogue,” Fading West – which was directed by Matt Katsolis of Interpret Studios – will be played to audiences ahead of Switchfoot’s 43-date national tour, which launches on September 20th in St. Louis. As for the tune, it offers an updated twist on the “hang 10” vibe that has sustained the alternative-rock band for 17 years.
“This song takes me back to when our band was first starting out – driving around California stuffed into a minivan with guitars and drums, ready to take on the world,” bassist Tim Foreman tells Rolling Stone. “Armed with nothing but a few songs and a wild hope, we were dumb enough to think that it could work. Maybe that’s the only way that the world has ever changed, by people dumb enough to try. So here’s to everyone who’s young and dumb enough to ignore the crowd and believe in who they are.”
