Justin Bieber Charged in Brazil Graffiti Incident
Justin Bieber has been charged by police in Rio de Janeiro for spraying graffiti after a photo appeared in local media outlets showing the pop star tagging a wall, the BBC reports. In Brazil, defacing a building can be punishable by a fine or up to a year in jail, but local authorities said Biebers’ was “a minor offense.”
Indeed, the local authorities actually gave Bieber permission to spray paint on a sports facility, but according to members of his entourage, the singer apparently instead chose to tag a wall on the nearby, abandoned Hotel Nacional to avoid his fans. For police, however, authorization from the city did not mean Bieber could pick and choose where he painted.
The Evolution of Justin Bieber
Bieber was officially charged by Brazil’s civil police force with “defacing a building or urban monument by graffiti or other means.”
Bieber has apparently already left the country as well, flying out to Paraguay, where he has a concert scheduled. The graffiti incident closes out a somewhat tumultuous stay in Brazil for Bieber – the 19-year old was accused of cussing at photographers, seen leaving a night club with a dubious reputation and was even kicked out of one of Rio’s best hotels – though such events have become somewhat par for the course. The authorities have discovered pot his tour bus more than once this year, he’s being sued by a photographer he allegedly assaulted, he reportedly threatened a neighbor who complained about noise during a party. While he was in Europe this past spring, he angered fans by showing up late to a concert and got into a screaming match with paparazzi.
For all of the ridiculousness that follows Bieber – expressing his conviction that Anne Frank would have been “a Belieber,” or leaving a pet monkey in Germany – the pop star did poke fun at himself and his behavior during a recent episode of Between Two Ferns, during which he received a hearty spanking from Zach Galifianakis.
