Bloc Party Going on Indefinite Hiatus
Bloc Party will go on an indefinite hiatus after they perform at Latitude Festival on July 19th, marking the band’s second lengthy stint apart since 2009.
“Definitely after we finish the festivals in the summer, we’ll be taking some time off. At least six months, maybe a year, maybe two years; it’s hard to say,” guitarist Russell Lissack told the National Post. “Once we start taking time off, people start doing their own thing. So once people start doing things then you’ll start naturally extending how long we spend apart.”

Lissack admitted that the band has suffered from personal friction on their current tour, adding that his wife could only last two days on the road with them. “Maybe we’ll play an amazing show and we’ll be on a real high and then the next day some minor thing will happen and everyone hates each other.”
After the band released their third album, 2009’s Intimacy, they went on hiatus due to interpersonal conflict, with singer Kele Okereke thinking he’d been fired at one point. They returned in 2012 to release Four. “This time, before we set off on this record, it was something we discussed and I think we’ve been dealing with it a little better,” Lissack said. “Not a lot better but a little better.”
It’s not all bad news, though: Lissack confirmed they’ll be releasing a new EP this summer.
