Santigold Recruits Jay Z, Pharrell, Andy Samberg for New Video
In February, Santigold released her interactive “Can’t Get Enough of Myself,” which allowed fans to transplant their own faces into her latest 99¢ video. The singer has compiled some of the more famous people who contributed their image to the vanity-obsessed video – Pharrell Williams, Olivia Wilde, Andy Samberg, Jay Z – for the “official” version of “Can’t Get Enough of Myself.”
Jay Z and Wilde appear in posters and billboards as the selfie-taking Santigold strolls around the city, while Pharrell Williams shows up in a screen-within-a-screen on a Jumbotron during a basketball game shown on a TV in a diner. Samberg has the most notable cameo, appearing alongside Santigold during a photobooth sessions.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Santigold talked about the sessions behind the 99¢ track. “I loved working with Patrik Berger. I’d never worked with him before, and it was such a great surprise how easily we fell into working together and how similar our influences were,” she said. “One day I came in and had this idea for song and he basically played me the beat that was ‘Can’t Get Enough of Myself,’ and I’ve never had that moment. For the record, I’m the pickiest person in the world, and it never happens that somebody has a whole beat that’s pretty much done for the most part, plays it, and it’s like, ‘Yes, that’s what I was thinking.'”
Earlier Monday, Santigold made her daytime television debut on Ellen with a powerfully vain rendition of “Can’t Get Enough of Myself,” complete with outfits and walls adorning images of the singer.
