Watch Adam Sanders’ Intense ‘Thunder’ Video
For an independent artist in an increasingly crowded field of competitors, singer-songwriter Adam Sanders has been experiencing the kind of numbers some major-label acts would be thrilled to tally up. He’s already reached seven million Spotify streams for his latest single “Thunder,” which joins previous million-stream releases. Now the Lake City, Florida, native has unveiled the intense video for that song.
Directed by Matt DeLisi, the emotionally-charged, ominous clip follows an increasingly unsettling relationship from violent black-and-white to a more colorful, yet not exactly rainbow-bright conclusion, leaving viewers to fill in the blanks for themselves where the rest of the storyline is concerned. While interpretation of the video will vary person to person, the co-writer of the Number One singles “Hell of a Night” (for Dustin Lynch) and “Ain’t Worth the Whiskey” (for Cole Swindell) says “Thunder” struck a deeper chord for him than any of the others to his credit.
“‘Thunder’ is by far the most personal song I’ve ever written,” Sanders tells Rolling Stone Country. “Sometimes in life our darkest days are followed by the brightest sun. I’m just thankful the world is finally getting a chance to hear it. The video adds a whole new layer to the story and is one I’m very proud of.”
Indie artist though he may be, Sanders — who moved to Nashville in 2007 — is already in the big leagues when it comes to songs he’s written. The co-writer of “Sounds of Summer,” a cut from Dierks Bentley’s Riser that also served as the name of the superstar’s 2015 tour, Sanders has also had his songs recorded by Luke Bryan, Tyler Farr, Michael Ray and Scotty McCreery as well as opened shows for Gary Allan, Eric Church and more. In 2015, he toured extensively with Cole Swindell. His debut single, “Nothin’ to Do but Drink,” was released in 2014, followed by “Somewhere That You Don’t Go” in May 2015. He continues to tour while working on new music throughout the year.
