Grimes Lights Up ‘Fallon’ With Rapturous ‘Flesh Without Blood’
Grimes turned The Tonight Show into a neon-lit dreamscape Wednesday for her performance of Art Angels single, “Flesh Without Blood.”
Strapped with a sticker-covered Stratocaster and dressed in a billowing ball gown, Grimes belted the pop cut in her stunning, helium-high voice and traded guitar, sampler and synth duties with another musician. The singer also found time to join her two backup dancers and break out some rapturous moves as the stage erupted in flashing lights.
Grimes released Art Angels last November, three years after her breakout LP Visions. She’s set to return to the road this May opening for Florence and the Machine, and will play a handful of festivals as well including Hangout, Sasquatch, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands and FYF.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Grimes also mentioned she was working on new music and finishing some B sides, which could comprise a follow-up to Art Angels. As for the direction of the new material, Grimes said: “With Art Angels, it was all like [growls]. This would be more chill vibes, downtempos, synth-y shit. That makes it sound boring. It’s not boring.”
