Hear the Waco Brothers’ Spiky ‘Receiver’
For their latest full-length album Going Down in History, the Waco Brothers are still mining that sweet spot where country, punk and rock overlap for an unpolished collection that captures the essence of their live shows. Due February 26th, Going Down in History finds the mostly-Chicago-based band taking their album title seriously by calling upon the musical lessons of the past and going for broke to fit them into the future.
On the track “Receiver,” the Waco Brothers dole out paranoid musings on technology, the environment and relationships over relentlessly spiky guitars and one resilient floor tom for something that would sound equally at home in a grimy pub or on some dark stretch of asphalt. Listen to the track in full below.
“It’s like the Peter Gunn theme meets 50 shades of Waco,” says Waco Brothers singer-guitarist Jon Langford. “Machines, sex, ozone — and noisy guitars.”
Formed in the mid-Nineties, Waco Brothers includes members Jon Langford (Mekons), Alan Doughty, Tracey Dear, Dean Schlabowske and Joe Camarillo. In 2015, they released Cabaret Showtime, a live recording in collaboration with Nashville hero Paul Burch. The band will play several U.S. dates beginning with a release day show at FitzGerald’s in Berwyn, Illinois. Going Down in History is available for pre-order now.
