The-Dream Surprise-Releases Sam Cooke Covers Album
Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Terius “The-Dream” Nash took to Instagram Tuesday to announce the release of IAMSAM, a Sam Cooke covers album. The eight-track album was secretly recorded in 2010 while Nash was working on Beyoncé’s 4; but Nash’s heartwarming renditions of hits like “Cupid” and “A Change Is Gonna Come” ring truer to Cooke’s original 1960s productions than The-Dream’s work on “Single Ladies.” The album is available to stream on Soundcloud below to coincide with the 23rd anniversary of Nash’s mother’s death.
“My Mother loved a lot of artists growing up,” said The-Dream. “But the one we shared the most interest in together was Sam Cooke, so tonight, I give him back to her.”
The album is a welcome release after the numerous delays of his upcoming full-length album, Crown Jewel.
